4:25 P.M. — Dressed in her U.S. Air Force uniform as she stood in front of a replica of the Vietnam Wall Memorial, Agnia Leal's blue eyes welled up with tears.

After a year of serving her adopted country, the Cuba native was finally becoming a U.S. citizen.

Leal, 32, was one of 27 people who gained U.S. citizenship today in a naturalization ceremony at the Lee County Sports Complex. The ceremony was held during the American Heroes Air Show, which allowed the public to climb into 17 law enforcement helicopters. The show also featured a 400-foot long replica of the Vietnam Wall Memorial.

"To have that wall here was so nice," said Leal, who is from Brandon. "I feel like I'm following all those people whose names are on that wall."

Leal was one of three military personnel who participated in the ceremony.

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible for expedited citizenship under special provisions under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
