| Fallen Savannah Rangers Remembered Posted: 21 Jan 2011 03:11 PM PST SAVANNAH, GA -- Seven lives lost. Seven men killed. Seven families and their friends hurt far more than any number could describe. "Everyone of these deaths in and of itself is so incredibly important and there is a story behind everyone and not just the death but behind the man," explains Battalion Commander Colonel Michael Foster. Sergeant Justin Allen was on his fourth deployment. Originally from Florida he is described as a skilled warrior who cared fiercely for his men. Specialist Joseph Dimock was said to represent everything right with America. From Illinois he is survived by his parents Sergeant Martin Lugo enlisted in the army right out of high school a member of the battalion for six years he was killed in a fierce firefight with the Taliban. Staff Sergeant Kevin Pape, a husband and father, he was on his sixth deployment. "He was the kind of guy that if you needed help on his off time he would accommodate that," explains friend and fellow Ranger Staff Sergeant John Virdier. "SGT Peney was always in a good mood. We kind of looked at him as one of the guys in the platoon that could always bring up the mood no matter what was going on," recalls Captain Jim Marione his Platoon Leader. A Medic Peney was killed while trying to treat a fellow soldier... Sergeant First Class Lance Vogeler was about to become a father at the time of his death. He leaves behind a baby boy and his wife. He was killed during a heavy firefight in Afghanistan. Specialist Christopher Wright a native of Kentucky whose dream was to be an Army Ranger. "There is this image that I have that in heaven there is a great hall where warriors congregate. I truly believe that and in that hall there is a special place for American heroes," says an emotional COL Foster. The battalion lost more soldiers during this one deployment than they have since the start of The Global War on Terror.
