ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Law enforcement officers and a U.S. congressman are rallying behind a federal agent accused of murder in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The lawmen and U.S. Rep. Chris Lee held a demonstration Friday in Rochester, N.Y., in support of special agent William Clark of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Clark is scheduled to go on trial Monday for shooting a neighbor to death during a domestic dispute in 2008.

Clark's lawyers say he fired in self defense after the man swung a heavy flashlight at him.

Virgin Islands prosecutors and investigators in the Justice Department have disagreed sharply over whether the shooting was justified.

Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association President Jon Adler said at Friday's rally that "American heroes deserve medals, not jail cells."
