Congratulations to the U.S. Marine Corps and everyone who donated some 15,000 toys to help make the season glow for families in need. The Marines estimate 1,400 Collier County families showed up for a toy giveaway the other day — and there still were enough toys left over to share with local charities. Ho, ho, ho. Another bold mission accomplished. Meanwhile, some crafty ladies from East Naples Methodist Church worked their special magic. Actually, their formal name is the Craft Ladies Mission Circle, and for the third year they crocheted, knitted and sewed for months to make lap robes and other items for disabled armed services veterans in Collier County assisted living centers. Those American heroes are said to number about 80. Between Veterans Day and the holidays, the ladies delivered the goods — spreading the real warmth of the season to these noble patriots. The crafty ladies are already at work crocheting, knitting and sewing the goods for next year's special mission, which we are certain they will accomplish.
